Governor Fubara Commissions 1,000-Housing Milestone at Greater TAF City
In a landmark victory for affordable housing and urban renewal, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Executive Governor of Rivers State, officially commissioned the first 1,000 completed housing units at Greater TAF City today.
The ceremony marks a pivotal two-year milestone for the ambitious 20,000-unit mega-city project. Born from a strategic Private Procurement Partnership (PPP) between the Rivers State Government, the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, and TAF Africa Global, the project is rapidly transforming the landscape of the region under the "Pricewise Home" initiative.
From Vision to Reality: A Two-Year Journey
Just two years ago, on December 9, 2024, Governor Fubara performed the groundbreaking ceremony on what was then an expanse of potential. Today, that vision has materialized into a thriving community. The Governor, accompanied by senior state officials, toured the expansive site, expressing profound satisfaction with the pace and quality of the construction.
"Our administration promised to make a meaningful impact on the lives of our people, and today we see that promise in brick and mortar. Greater TAF City is not just about buildings; it is a testament to what is possible when the government and the private sector align their visions for the common good."
A Catalyst for Economic and Social Growth
Beyond providing shelter, the project has emerged as a massive engine for economic empowerment:
- ✓ Job Creation: Over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs generated, stimulating the economy across the region.
- ✓ Local Content: Indigenous artisans, contractors, and material suppliers were the backbone of construction.
- ✓ Youth Empowerment: Hundreds of young people received hands-on technical training and vocational skills.
- ✓ Sustainability: Green Environment philosophy with sustainable drainage and solar-ready infrastructure.
Addressing the National Housing Deficit
With Nigeria facing a staggering housing deficit estimated at nearly 28 million units, Greater TAF City serves as a scalable model for the rest of the country. By focusing on "Pricewise" affordability, the partnership is directly tackling the barrier to homeownership for middle- and low-income earners.
